Research demonstrates that providing early services for infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities and their families decreases needs and costs in later years. Washington State program data demonstrates and increased in the number of children receiving early intervention services who exit the Infant Toddler Early Intervention Program (ITEIP) and were no longer in need of special education services by their third birthday. The following chart shows the percentage of children no longer needing services from 1997 through 2005.
