Infants and Toddlers Can't Wait
Why does early intervention matter?
Benefits to children
- Research on early development shows the windows for early learning begin at birth. With intervention at birth or soon after the diagnosis of a disability or developmental concern, a child has greater developmental gains and less chance of secondary disabilities.
Benefits to the state
- In Washington State, from October 2004 through September 2005, 21 % of children exiting the Infant Toddler Early Intervention Program (ITEIP) did not need special education services by their third birthday.
